Championship 18-hole course in Sedin

The year 2017 will undoubtedly be one of the most fruitful in the modern history of Slovak golf. Golfers can look forward to the opening of two eighteen – Red Oak in Nitra and Sedin and a nine-hole course in Trnava.

The first nine of the eighteen holes of the Malý Slavkov course are also set to open for play. This time we invite you to Sedin.

Although eager golfers were able to play at least the first nine holes last year, Sedin Golf Resort is still unknown to most golfers. However, the full championship eighteen-hole course will be operational from the beginning of April this year, with the first tournament opening weekend taking place on the 29th and 30th of April 2017.

A part of Veľké Úľany surrounded by riparian forests. How to get there? There are two options from Bratislava. Go along the main course in Hrubá Borša, from where it is about ten kilometres away. Those who prefer faster roads will certainly prefer the 1st class road in direction to Sládkovičovo. Before reaching the town you must turn at the roundabout and head to Veľké Úľany. A signpost will guide you; follow the signs carefully until you reach the village (especially before the right-hand bend). Sedin is part of Veľké Úľany, but it is located towards its end.

By then we will reach picturesque area near the oxbows of the Little Danube. There, riparian forests, often with centuries-old trees, alternate with smaller woods, meadows and lakes. It seems as if nature itself has created it all. However, if you look more closely, you will realise that humans have played their part too. Until a few years ago, it was an area where gravel was mined. There are two large lakes left over from that period. When the mining activity stopped, the surrounding nature took on a life of its own and added to the charm of the local flora, for example with spectacular reeds and other vegetation, where various species of birds, small animals and other creatures also thrive. The investor and developer of the golf course undoubtedly had a lucky hand. The course fits perfectly into the nature, as if it had always been there.

Golfers of all levels will enjoy playing there.

We walked through the championship course and the entire area in the middle of a cold March, and although nature was just waking up, it was already showing its charm. Grassy areas on fairways and greens were in excellent condition and barely showed signs of immaturity, as is usual before the opening of a course. The overall impression is enhanced by the white sands in the bunkers, characterised by gently curved and grass-covered edges that require meticulous maintenance. Overall, it is a flat course, so most players will be able to manage it on their own. The view of the surrounding riparian forests and the blue surface of the lakes will make for a pleasant walk. Players will enjoy the water to the full. Not only will it accompany them along eight holes, but it will not be actually possible to get to the 12th grin otherwise than by a successful tee shot across the water. There are also several slightly elevated greens, and the architects have skilfully utilised a long-overgrown gravel mound several metres high. Players will have to climb it, as there are both men’s (higher) and women’s (lower) tees on the 18th hole. This place will captivate visitors with its tranquillity.
There are no busy traffic roads in the vicinity. The successful opening of the course is undoubtedly due to the organisational experience of its manager, Mr. Rastislav Michalák, who has already organised several Slovak courses. Among other things, he is currently working on the creation of a membership base. They are also attracted by the opportunity to play in advantageous conditions at the Welten partner course in Báč.

A modern club house that has a reception desk decorated with classical golf motives.

The club house has two separate sections – one is dedicated directly to the club members. There is no shortage of Scottish tartan, for example, in the interior decor. The most popular place will surely be the seating area in front of the green-built stove, which can heat the entire club house, if necessary. The second part of the building, the Party House, can accommodate up to one hundred people, not only during big tournaments, but also for various social, cultural, corporate and conference events. In the weather is nice, you can sit on the covered terrace. From here you can see the extensive training areas for both long and short game. There is also a two-hole academy. Participants in the opening ceremony at the end of April will be able to check out the whole operation, but Sedin has already included several well-known Slovak and Czech tours in the programme.
